Richmond RCMP, the City of Richmond’s Youth Services, and community partners are pleased to announce the release of new Positive Tickets with a refreshed look to coincide with Youth Week May 1st to 7th.

The Positive Ticket program, first conceived in Richmond in 2001 and later widely adopted by police agencies across North America, is a way for police officers and other community service providers to engage in a positive, non-confrontational way with local youth. Over the years, it became hugely popular.

We are very excited to continue this amazing program with the latest version of the Positive Tickets. The Positive Ticket program offers police officers a chance to engage with local youth in a positive way, said Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan, Officer in Charge of Richmond RCMP. It promotes positive behaviour, helps to break down barriers, and allows our officers to connect with some of the most vulnerable youth in our community.

The City is proud to continue its support of this innovative program which provides opportunities for youth to get involved in recreational activities as a reward for positive actions and behaviours, said Mayor Malcolm Brodie, City of Richmond. The concept of Positive Ticketing helps to bridge the gap between youth and the police, as well as other community leaders, by recognizing good behaviour and rewarding good deeds, while connecting and building relationships.

When a Richmond RCMP officer, City of Richmond Youth Services worker, or community partner witnesses a young person doing a good deed, they have the opportunity to reward this behaviour by issuing a positive ticket.

Each positive ticket can be redeemed by a youth (aged 18 years or younger) for one free drop-in session at participating Richmond community centres or facilities. This could include a round of pitch and putt golf, skating, swimming, or a workout at a fitness centre or open gym.  The Positive Ticket also lists important information that vulnerable youth may find useful, including phone numbers for local helplines, food banks, mental health and addiction services.
